Stars: Ruggero Deodato, Neil Marshall, Christopher Smith

Every Video Nasty critiqued and explored, followed by the original trailers, for the first time ever on DVD in America! Prepare to be corrupted and depraved once more with this definitive guide to the Video Nasties phenomenon - one of the most extraordinary and scandalous eras in the history of British film. For the first time ever on DVD, TRAILERS to all 72 films that fell foul of the Director of Public Prosecutions are featured with specially filmed intros for each title in a lavish three-disc collector's edition box-set, alongside a brand new documentary - VIDEO NASTIES: MORAL PANIC, CENSORSHIP AND VIDEOTAPE.

Disc One, The era-defining and critically acclaimed documentary VIDEO NASTIES: MORAL PANIC, CENSORSHIP AND VIDEOTAPE directed by Jake (Doghouse) West and produced by Marc Morris features interviews with filmmakers Neil Marshall (The Descent, Doomsday), Christopher Smith (Severance, Black Death) and MP Graham Bright as well as rare archive footage featuring James Ferman (director of the BBFC 1975-1999) & Mary Whitehouse. Taking in the explosion of home video, the erosion of civil liberties, the introduction of draconian censorship measures, hysterical press campaigns and the birth of many careers born in blood and videotape, West's documentary also reflects on the influence this peculiar era still exerts on us today.

Disc Two presents the 39 titles that were successfully prosecuted in UK courts and deemed liable to deprave and corrupt. These included: Absurd, Cannibal Holocaust, The Driller Killer, I Spit on Your Grave, Nightmares in a Damaged Brain, Snuff, and Zombie Flesh-Eaters.

Disc Three presents the 33 titles that were initially banned, but then subsequently acquitted and removed from the DPP's list. These included: Death Trap, Deep River Savages, The Evil Dead, Human Experiments, The Toolbox Murders and Zombie Creeping Flesh. Discs 2 and 3 can be viewed either as a non-stop trailer show, or with newly-filmed introductions from a wide range of acclaimed media academics and notable genre journalists. Each disc is preceded by a brief introduction by cult horror presenter Emily Booth.

In the tradition of THE NIGHT PORTER, SALON KITTY and SALO - only far more depraved - comes perhaps the most notorious Nazisploitation epic of them all: Daniela Levy (aka Italian TV presenter and future UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Daniela Poggi) stars as a beautiful young death camp prisoner forced into a nightmare of brutality, torment and sexual degradation. But will a Commandant's vilest urge trigger her ultimate vengeance? Marc Loud (aka Adriano Micantoni of TOMB OF TORTURE) co-stars in this fetid slice of filth-strudel - also known as LAST ORGY OF THE THIRD REICH and CALIGULA REINCARNATED AS HITLER - now presented totally uncut and uncensored, including the infamous dinner scene that still has the film banned in the UK!

Film Fanaddict News : Kino Lorber and Redemption to Release Jess Franco's The Demons and Robert Hartford-Davis' The Black Torment
Posted by David Carter on 2014/4/17 20:05:02 (33 reads)

Open in new windowKino Lorber and Redemption are proud to announce the release of Jess Franco's THE DEMONS in its complete, uncensored cut on Blu-ray, newly mastered in HD from the original 35mm elements, and THE BLACK TORMENT, a Gothic horror film by Robert Hartford-Davis that will be released on DVD, mastered in HD from 35mm archival elements.

Continuing its releases of the best in European horror in newly-mastered editions from original film elements, Kino Lorber and Redemption are pleased to bring these two films to horror fans on April 29th with special features including interviews that give new insight into the creation of these stylish and atmospheric films.

THE DEMONS is the latest of Kino Lorber and Redemption's digital restorations of the films of Jess Franco, including such critically-acclaimed releases as FEMALE VAMPIRE, A VIRGIN AMONG THE LIVING DEAD, and the Rondo Award-nominated THE AWFUL DR. ORLOF.

The Blu-ray release of THE DEMONS (SRP: $24.95) is presented in the original French and German language soundtrack with optional English subtitles, and comes packed with special features including an interview with Jess Franco by David Gregory (16 min.), six minutes of deleted footage, two theatrical trailers, and trailers of other Franco films.

The DVD release of THE BLACK TORMENT (SRP: $19.95) includes a rare filmed interview with Robert Hartford-Davis (1968, 13 min.)

Jess Franco's THE DEMONS

"RIPE FOR REDISCOVERY! Uses witch-hunting as an excuse for sadistic sexual shenanigans." - Immoral Tales: European Sex and Horror Movies, 1956-1984

In the wake of the massive controversy surrounding Ken Russell's The Devils, several filmmakers rushed to create their own Inquisition horror films, inspired by the true story of satanic possession at the convent of Loudun. THE DEMONS (Les démons) is Jess Franco's stellar entry in the nunsploitation canon, with a degree of sadism and sexual explicitness that overshadows its competitors.

While being burned at the stake, an accused witch curses the principal witchfinder and his minions. As a result, members of royalty and the religious establishment are caused to suffer (or, some might say, enjoy) a series of human depravities. Franco photographs the scenes of torture, sex, and demon possession with a sense of tenderness that is both aesthetically pleasing and deeply unsettling.

Previously unreleased on video in the U.S., this Redemption edition represents the complete, uncensored version of the film.

"The perfect film to watch on a gloomy night." - HorrorNews.net

An 18th-century gothic thriller, depicted with the vivid colors and overt eroticism borrowed from the Hammer horror films, THE BLACK TORMENT has emerged from obscurity to become recognized as "a minor classic... basically another retelling of Du Maurier's Rebecca except with blood, guts, and ghostly goings-on" (britishhorrorfilms.co.uk).

Returning to his country estate with his new bride, English nobleman Sir Richard Fordyce finds himself under suspicion from angry locals for the rape and brutal murder of a young girl. Despite Sir Richard's professed innocence, a growing hysteria unfolds, as strange and even supernatural events begin to occur around him.

With no one to turn to and his new wife threatening to shoot him, Sir Richard begins to question his own guilt... and sanity!

Jean Sorel (Belle De Jour) stars as an arrogant San Francisco doctor trapped between his sultry mistress (Elsa Martinelli of Blood And Roses) and an amoral stripper (Marisa Mell of Danger: Diabolik) who bears an uncanny resemblance to his recently deceased and possibly murdered wife. What follows has been called Fulci's first true masterpiece, where sexual obsession, cruel deception and depraved murder all come together in one unforgettable Perversion Story.

John Ireland and Faith Domergue co-star in this gripping giallo - also known as One On Top Of The Other - that features eye-popping nudity, provocative locations (including the gas chamber at San Quentin) and a badass jazz score by Riz Ortolani (Mondo Cane, Kill Bill). Severin Films is proud to present Perversion Story in a startling new high definition transfer from the original vault negative thought to be lost for more than 35 years!

The Eroticist: For the legendary director of Zombie, The Beyond and Perversion Story it was perhaps the most shocking film of his entire career: A blasphemous yet acclaimed erotic comedy bursting with depraved priests, luscious nuns, and a possessed politician with a compulsion for perversion. Laura Antonelli (The Divine Nymph), Agostina Belli (The Fifth Cord), Lando Buzzabca (When Women Had Tails), Anita Strindberg (Lizard In A Woman's Skin), and Lionel Stander (Cul-De-Sac) star in the surreal '70s flesh-fest that could only come from the immoral imagination of Lucio Fulci!

Severin Films is proud to present this sacrilegious sexcapade - also known as The Senator Likes Women - now fully restored from elements recently discovered in a secret underground vault near The Vatican!

The Psychic: Shortly before he surrendered to the gory excesses of horror, Lucio Fulci - the notorious director of Zombie and Perversion Story - crafted one last brilliant thriller with a killer twist. Jennifer O'Neill (Scanners) stars as a clairvoyant tormented by visions of a violent murder. But will her own investigation into the crime lead to the most shocking discovery of all? Marc Porel (Don't Torture A Duckling) and Evelyn Stewart (The Whip And The Body) co-star in this chilling giallo that critics and fans - including avowed devotee Quentin Tarantino - consider the most stunning of the maestro's entire career.

Released in the U.S. with several key scenes removed, The Psychic (aka Seven Notes In Black) is now presented in its fully restored European Version featuring footage never before seen in America

Posted by David Carter on 2014/3/9 8:36:35 (129 reads)

Open in new windowRaro Video is proud to announce the Blu-ray and DVD release of Franco Prosperi's MEET HIM AND DIE, a rare gem of the poliziotteschi genre starring Ray Lovelock (Fiddler on the Roof; Live Like a Cop, Die Like a Man), Elke Sommer (Lisa and the Devil, A Shot in the Dark), and Martin Balsam (Psycho, Cape Fear).

Raro Video brings this hard-hitting Italian police thriller to Blu-ray and DVD, digitally remastered, on April 1, 2014. The SRP for the Blu-ray is $34.95, and the SRP for the DVD is $29.95. Bonus features include a video introduction by Mike Malloy (6:34), new and improved English subtitles, and a fully illustrated booklet about the film.

SYNOPSIS:
In this frame by frame, digitally restored, first time Blu-ray release, comes this rare entry into the poliziotteschi genre. A robbery goes terribly wrong for a hapless criminal Massimo (Ray Lovelock) when he tries to break into a jewelry store only to have the steel shutters immediately slam down and lock him inside until the police arrive. Naturally, he is sent straight to jail but it doesn't take long before he befriends a big time crime boss inside, but the plot thickens when it transpires that the young man is actually not who we think he is. The two execute a successful escape and we soon find out that we don't really know the true background of these criminals or what is really motivating them.

Franco Prosperi (Last House on the Beach) directs this revenge themed crime film with Ray Lovelock and Elke Sommer. With its clever plot twists, fist fights, motorcycle and car chases, MEET HIM AND DIE is an entertaining police action thriller.

Film Fanaddict News : Kino Lorber to Release Alain Robbe-Grillet's L'IMMORTELLE in new HD transfer on Blu-ray and DVD
Posted by David Carter on 2014/3/9 8:35:18 (127 reads)

Open in new windowKino Lorber and Redemption are proud to announce the Blu-ray and DVD release of Alain Robbe-Grillet's L'IMMORTELLE (1963), starring François Brion and Jacques Doniol-Valcroze. The film marks Robbe-Grillet's directorial debut, following the acclaim he received for his Academy Award®-nominated screenplay for Alain Resnais' Last Year at Marienbad the previous year. L'IMMORTELLE won the Prix Louis Delluc and was nominated for the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival when it was released in 1963.

This is the third release in The Cinema of Alain Robbe-Grillet, a collection from Kino Lorber and Redemption that will consist of six films by the acclaimed French writer and filmmaker, restored and remastered in HD from original 35mm elements.

L'IMMORTELLE will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on April 1st, with a SRP of $34.95 for the Blu-ray and $29.95 for the DVD. It is presented in the original French language soundtrack with optional English subtitles. Special features include an interview with Alain Robbe-Grillet (32 min.), three trailers for the films of Alain Robbe-Grillet, and a 2014 promotional short for The Cinema of Alain Robbe-Grillet Collection.

With his talent for intricate, experimental narratives, and his penchant for sado-masochism as a recurring theme in his work, Robbe-Grillet used film to explore his own sexual desires, resulting in a highly personal and sometimes disturbing body of work that is equally characteristic of European art cinema and the exploitation cinema of the 1960s.

For years, Robbe-Grillet's films have been unavailable in the United States in any form. It is with great pride that Kino Lorber and Redemption Films bring these films to American viewers, in exquisite HD editions, aiding in the rediscovery of one of European cinema's most eclectic and highly original filmmakers.

With its highly stylized camerawork and fragmented narrative structure, Alain Robbe-Grillet's L'IMMORTELLE is a cinematic arabesque that teases the eye with visual delights, yet sadistically confounds the viewer's expectations. Not dissimilar to Alain Resnais's Last Year at Marienbad, which he had written two years earlier, L'IMMORTELLE involves a Frenchman, traveling in Istanbul, who is fascinated by the city's language, architecture, and exotic culture. He soon becomes entranced by a mysterious woman (Françoise Brion) who seems to encourage his attentions but remains, maddeningly, just beyond his reach. His erotic pursuit of her leads him into the criminal underworld...with deadly consequences.

Film Fanaddict News : Kino Lorber and Redemption Release Pete Walker's Frightmare and Flesh & Blood Show on Blu-ray
Posted by David Carter on 2014/3/2 19:27:43 (166 reads)

Open in new windowKino Lorber and Redemption are proud to announce the Blu-ray release of two films by the celebrated cult horror filmmaker Pete Walker: FRIGHTMARE and THE FLESH & BLOOD SHOW. Kino Lorber and Redemption are pleased to release these two films in deluxe Blu-ray editions, mastered in HD from the original 35mm negatives and packed with special features (including a special 3D sequence on THE FLESH & BLOOD SHOW) that will make these releases a welcome addition to horror fans' collections.

FRIGHTMARE and THE FLESH & BLOOD SHOW both come to Blu-ray on March 18th, with individual SRPs of $24.95 each.

Special Features on FRIGHTMARE include: "For the Sake of Cannibalism," an interview with Pete Walker, by Elijah Drenner; Audio commentary by director Pete Walker and DP Peter Jessop, conducted by Steve Chibnall, author of Making Mischief: The Cult Films of Pete Walker; "Sheila Keith: A Nice Old Lady?" a profile of the late actress, featuring interviews with her former collaborators; and the original theatrical trailer.

Special features on THE FLESH & BLOOD SHOW include: "Flesh, Blood, and Censorship," an interview with Pete Walker, by Elijah Drenner; 3-D sequence (10 min.) in the stereoscopic format (requires 3-D television system); 3-D sequence in the anaglyph format (requires red/blue 3-D glasses, not included); and the original theatrical trailer

Known for his films that blend elements of horror and exploitation, British director Pete Walker's long career in the horror genre spans over forty years. Lurking beneath the blood-soaked of his unabashedly tawdry films is the director's sly sense of humor. A former stand-up comic, Walker laced his films with clever wordplay, and took great pleasure in using his scripts to skewer figures of religious and political authority (especially those who dared to impose their sense of morality upon others).

Kino Lorber and Redemption have previously released four of Walker's films on Blu-ray and DVD: House of Whipcord, Die Screaming, Marianne, The Comeback, and Schizo, and are proud to continue to bring the works of this unique director, whose films are ripe for re-discovery, to fans in high-quality HD transfers that do justice to his distinctive visual style.

FRIGHTMARE

Throughout his career, director Pete Walker was no stranger to controversy, but his 1974 film FRIGHTMARE sparked a firestorm of criticism from the protectors of public morals, who deemed it "despicable" (London Observer), "horrendous" (Evening News), and "a moral obscenity" (Daily Telegraph).

In spite of the condemnation - or more likely, because of it - FRIGHTMARE has achieved almost legendary status in British horror history. Sheila Keith stars as a former patient of a mental institution, who has settled down in a remote farmhouse, where she tells fortunes in her spare time. But the kind, maternal exterior conceals a dreadful monster, which the asylum, it seems, was unable to cure.

THE FLESH & BLOOD SHOW

Billed as "An Appalling Amalgam of Carnage and Carnality," Pete Walker's THE FLESH AND BLOOD SHOW is an homage to the blood-spattered, sex-smeared theatre known as the Grand Guignol. Still haunted by an especially tragic production of Othello, a seaside theatre reopens its doors as a groovy musical revue, only to have several of its performers fall victim to the deadly curse.

Newly mastered in HD from the original 35mm negative, this special edition includes a newly-filmed interview with Walker, as well as the legendary 3-D sequence, presented here in both the stereoscopic and anaglyph formats (as well as conventional 2-D).

Open in new windowHis name is legendary. He’s created some of the most iconic films and characters in all cinema, including the Toxic Avenger and Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD. His name is Lloyd Kaufman and Anchor Bay’s got him! Anchor Bay Films proudly announces the return of Lloyd Kaufman to the theatrical feature director’s chair with the March 18th Blu-ray™ and DVD release of Return To Nuke ‘Em High, Vol. 1.

The cast includes Catherine Corcoran (The Lovely Bones), Asta Paredes (Occupy Cannes!), Debbie Rochon (Tromeo and Juliet), Motorhead’s Lemmy Kilmister and introducing Kevin the Wonder Duck! Fresh from exclusive theatrical engagements in New York, Los Angeles and other major markets, and still playing in exclusive theatrical engagements all over the world (while receiving excellent mainstream reviews http://return2nukeemhigh.com/press), Return to Nuke ‘Em High, Vol. 1 – presented in all its director-approved, unrated glory -- graduates with an SRP of $24.99 for the Blu-ray™ and $19.98 for the DVD. Pre-book date is February 19th.

Welcome to Tromaville High School. Your typical high school populated with your basic football jocks, wannabe prom queens and glee club hopefuls. Did I say “typical?” After all, this is Tromaville High, where the glee club has mutated into the hideous Cretins after eating tainted tacos courtesy of the Tromorganic Foodstuffs Conglomerate. Chrissy and Lauren, two innocent lovers/bloggers, must not only fight the adolescent beasts and freaks, they must also defeat the evil Conglomerate. Will they, along with their mutant pet duck, save Tromaville High and the rest of society? Return to Nuke ‘Em High, Vol. 1 has it all – satire, sci-fi, plenty of Troma’s world famous green goo, themes of anti-bullying and LGBT rights. If that isn’t enough, how about death by glee club, high falls, meltdowns and fiery explosions? Wait there’s more! There’s plenty of exposed teen viscera (and breasts!) and love triumphing over prejudice. Just like The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and “Glee” – only 100% Troma style!

Return to Nuke’Em High, Vol. 1 was selected by the Museum of Modern Art as part of their prestigious 2013 “Contenders Series,” an annual collection of visionary cinema, selecting influential, innovative films made and released during the year. 2014 also marks the 40th anniversary of Troma Entertainment, the longest surviving independent film label.

Fans have come to expect in-depth and plentiful bonus features on Troma Entertainment DVD releases. Not to worry, as Return to Nuke ‘Em High, Vol. 1 Blu-ray™ and DVD boasts the following “Troma-tic” extras:

Film Fanaddict News : Kino Lorber and Redemption Release Alain Robbe-Grillet's Trans-Europ-Express and Successive Slidings of Pleasure on Blu-ray and DVD on Feb. 11
Posted by David Carter on 2014/1/15 21:21:43 (309 reads)

Open in new windowKino Lorber and Redemption are proud to announce the Blu-ray and DVD releases of TRANS-EUROP-EXPRESS and SUCCESSIVE SLIDINGS OF PLEASURE, directed by Alain Robbe-Grillet. These two films are part of The Cinema of Alain Robbe-Grillet, which will consist of individual releases of films directed by the acclaimed French writer, essayist, and filmmaker. Kino Lorber and Redemption plan to release additional Robbe-Grillet films, including L'immortelle, The Man Who Lies, and Eden and After (and the alternate cut, N. Throws the Dice), later in 2014.

The first two films in the collection that will be released are TRANS-EUROP-EXPRESS (1967) and SUCCESSIVE SLIDINGS OF PLEASURE (1974), which will become available on Blu-ray and DVD on February 11th with individual SRPs of $34.95 for the Blu-ray editions, and $29.95 for the DVD editions. The films are mastered in HD from original 35mm elements and include interviews with Robbe-Grillet.

Decades ahead of his time, Alain Robbe-Grillet (1922-2008) remains one of the most important figures in Modern literature, and is best known for his innovative work in the Nouveau Roman style with novels such as Le Voyeur and La Jalousie. His screenplay for Alain Resnais' Last Year at Marienbad (1962) earned him an Academy Award® nomination for Best Writing (Original Screenplay).

Perhaps no other filmmaker has used the medium as an expression and exploration of his dark sexual desires, evidenced by erotic and sometimes disturbing motifs that recur with regularity throughout his body of work: blindfolds, bondage, strangulation, stabbing. Through his highly stylized and confident direction, Robbe-Grillet elevates these tableaux to a level of high art, yet never denying their place in the realm of 1960s exploitation cinema.

For years, Robbe Grillet's films have been unavailable in the United States in any form. It is with great pride that Kino Lorber and Redemption Films bring these films to American viewers, in exquisite HD editions, aiding in the rediscovery of one of European cinema's most eclectic and highly original filmmakers.

TRANS-EUROP-EXPRESS

A "parody of the old New Wave crime eroticism movies" (The New York Times), TRANS-EUROP-EXPRESS is a self-referential, neo-noir thriller, with heavy doses of sado-masochism, from the mind of Alain Robbe-Grillet (Last Year at Marienbad).

On the train from Paris to Antwerp, a director (Robbe-Grillet) and his production team hash out the plot of a crime movie. Their story is enacted by Jean Louis-Trintignant (Amour), who plays Elias, a cocaine smuggler seduced by Eva (Marie-France Pisier, Celine and Julie Go Boating), who may be working for a rival gang. But as the director keeps changing the story, Elias becomes lost in a labyrinth of false leads and shifting allegiances.

* In French with optional English subtitles
* Interview with Alain Robbe-Grillet (31 min.)

SUCCESSIVE SLIDINGS OF PLEASURE
(Glissements progressifs du plaisir)

A cult erotic drama from the perverse imagination of Alain Robbe-Grillet (Last Year at Marienbad, Trans-Europ-Express), SUCCESSIVE SLIDINGS OF PLEASURE delves into the twisted mind of a young woman (Anicée Alvina) suspected in the stabbing death of her roommate Nora (Olga Georges-Picot, Love and Death).

Imprisoned in a convent, the girl's seductive wiles hypnotize the cops and clerics that surround her. All submit to her sexual whims, and are drawn into a sado-masochistic world where fantasy and reality are pleasurably blurred. This devilishly entertaining trip into deviance is made even more alluring by the special appearances of Jean-Louis Trintigant (Amour), Michael Lonsdale (Moonraker) and Isabelle Huppert (The Piano Teacher).

Film Fanaddict News : CULT EPICS NEW RELEASE ANNOUNCEMENT
Posted by David Carter on 2014/1/12 20:08:39 (248 reads)

Open in new windowIn 1945 Italy, Livia (Anna Galiena), the bored wife of an Italian official, recalls the taboo affair she has been having with a much younger Nazi lieutenant (Gabriel Garko). The elation of her middle-aged sexual awakening is soon diminished when she discovers that her lover’s intentions are far from honest. Ashamed and betrayed, she must make the difficult decision to resolve her devastating erotic entanglement.

Tinto Brass reminds us why he is a master of his art. The lush and sentimental Ennio Morricone score beautifully complements the striking cinematography that contrasts the bliss of a woman’s rediscovery with a society ravaged by war. This is Camillo Boito’s 1882 novella Senso as only maestro-of-erotica Tinto Brass could tell it. A return to grandeur, the most expensive film Brass directed since CALIGULA. Cult Epics is proud to present this contemporary classic erotic drama on DVD for the first time in the U.S. with many Bonus Features including a Behind-the-Scenes Featurette and Complete Soundtrack option.

Also available THE TINTO BRASS COLLECTION VOL. IV: presenting Tinto Brass' most enjoyable erotic masterpieces, filled with eye-catching erotica in which Tinto continues to push the envelope. The Voyeur is Tinto's magnum opus and one of his most celebrated erotic films. Monamour welcomes him back to the style he is famous for, erotic comedy. And Black Angel, a grand masterpiece about fascism, Venice, women and desire.
